It wasn’t a Fight of the Year contender or anything, but a good, tough, hard-nosed fight between two guys who were there to scrap and win. Figueroa got the job done, and made it emphatic with the 12th round stoppage. It’s easy to say after the fact because he won, but I thought even in the middle of the bout that Figueroa’s corner had done a really good job both preparing and in the live action of the night, that was a good game plan and Figueroa executed really well. There’s nobody I wouldn’t be happy to see Brandon face next, by which I mean I would really hope to see him face one of the other titlists. A Ball rematch could work, I suppose, but as much as I don’t technically care about unification, the four titleholders are all quality and I think give each other some interesting matchups.

Super Bantamweight (Limit: 122)

    Last
Rank
Name
Record

    1
1
Naoya Inoue
31-0-0 (27)

    2
2
Marlon Tapales
41-4-1 (22)

    3
3
Junto Nakatani
32-0-0 (24)

    4
4
Sebastian Hernandez
20-1-0 (18)

    5
5
Alan Picasso
32-0-1 (17)

    6
6
Ramon Cardenas
26-2-0 (14)

    7
7
Shabaz Masoud
15-0-0 (4)

    8
8
Murodjon Akhmadaliev
14-2-0 (10)

    9
9
Subaru Murata
10-0-0 (10)

    1o
10
Filipus Nghitumbwa
17-2-0 (15)

Titles: WBC – Naoya Inoue, WBA – Naoya Inoue, IBF – Naoya Inoue, WBO – Naoya InoueUpcoming Notable Fights: (2) Marlon Tapales vs Yukinori Oguni, 4/3 … (1) Naoya Inoue vs (3) Junto Nakatani, 5/2

Notes: Marlon Tapales and Yukinori Oguni will be fighting at featherweight on April 3.
