FRESNO, Calif. –\u00a0Sophomore Bryson Barnes<\/a> posted his best collegiate finish, tying for fifth to lead the\u00a0CSUN Men’s Golf team to sixth-place finish at\u00a0The\u00a0Watney\u00a0Invitational on Tuesday at San Joaquin Country Club.<\/p>\n

Barnes had nine birdies over two rounds on Monday\u00a0before closing with a pair of birdies and 12 pars on Tuesday to finish at 1-over 72. He wound up tied for fifth in the 76-player field\u00a0at even-par 213.<\/p>\n

After carding\u00a0team rounds of 288-291on Monday, CSUN\u00a0closed with a round of 10-over 294 to finish sixth in the 14-team field.\u00a0At 873, the Matadors finished just one shot back of fifth-place California Baptist (872). Nevada (852) claimed the team championship, while Seattle’s Kevin Li, Nevada’s Riki Matsumoto, and UCSD’s Davis McDowell tied for individual medalist honors at 4-under 209.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing Barnes, Tavin Boman<\/a> also finished in the top 20, tying for 18th at 5-over 218 following rounds of 71-74-73.
\n\tDomenic De Luca<\/a> tied for 22nd at 6-over\u00a0219 after carding\u00a0rounds of 70-73-76..
\n\tLiam Judkins<\/a>\u00a0tied for 52nd\u00a0at 12-over\u00a0225\u00a0following rounds of 75-75-75.
\n\tEthan Posthumus<\/a>\u00a0finished in a\u00a0tie\u00a0for 56th at 13-over 226 following rounds of 75-77-74. <\/p>\n

\n“Overall it was a good tournament.\u00a0We had a team discussion on Sunday night before round one and I was pleased with how we came out and played here. We had two\u00a0guys in the top 20 and were a shot out of fifth,\u00a0This was definitely\u00a0a step in the right direction. It showed that we’re a talented ream and\u00a0capable of finishing in the top half of each tournament.”<\/p>\n

\nCSUN will be back on the course on Sunday, Mar. 22 as the Matadors will compete in the first of three rounds at the UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines GC.<\/p>\n
