(Martin Daigle, CityNews) <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, prices on the island were hovering around $1.55 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>The spike follows the escalating conflict involving Iran and growing concerns over the\u00a0Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passageway that handles nearly 20 per cent of global oil shipments. Tehran has threatened to block the strait, prompting some tankers to slow transit or remain in port.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Esso-in-Kirkland-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-471174\"  \/>Esso gas station in Kirkland on March 4, 2026.
