But a development application filed with the city in 2020 shows plans for a new subdivision with nine single detached dwellings, 39 street townhouses, one condo townhouse block, a 12-storey apartment building with a maximum 200 apartment units, and townhouses.

The area has seen multiple collisions, and residents on the north side of Queen Street have “deep concerns” about driver and pedestrian safety, Brampton Coun. Paul Vicente said at a regional council meeting last month.

Responsibility for bringing lights to the intersection falls to the developer, but with the subdivision stalled, the region is taking over to install temporary traffic signals in the area.

A motion from Vicente passed at Region Council last month ensures temporary lights will be in place until permanent ones are installed.

The new overhead traffic control signals will cost around $350,000 from the region’s Capital Financial Stability Roads funds.

“While permanent signals are currently complicated by deep-servicing infrastructure related to a nearby subdivision…the Council has refused to let technical delays stand in the way of public safety,” Area Coun.
