Police say there is no indication two recent shootings in northeast Calgary are related to each other or connected to extortion targeting the city’s South Asian community.<\/a><\/p>\n

Police said they were called to the Peter Lougheed Centre for reports of someone with a gunshot wound at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

So far this year, there have been 20 reported shootings, with six of those confirmed as extortion-related police said. <\/p>\n

In a recent report<\/a> to the Calgary Police Commission, CPS said there was a total of 54 shootings reported in the city in 2025, a 31-per-cent decrease compared to the previous year. Eight of those were extortion-related, the report said.<\/p>\n

Smith said despite last year being a low year for shootings overall, police take all firearms incidents seriously. <\/p>\n
