{"id":515364,"date":"2026-03-05T05:57:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T05:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/515364\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T05:57:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T05:57:08","slug":"matthew-is-on-a-four-day-bender-and-im-under-the-microscope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/515364\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018(Matthew) is on a four-day bender and I\u2019m under the microscope\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Playing for a Canadian team in the NHL always comes with a lot of pressure, and few experience that more than <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/ottawa-senators\/line-combinations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> captain Brady Tkachuk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Tkachuk already deals with a lot of the pressure of playing in Canada on a normal day, but the past couple of seasons have seen that magnified with NHL players finally participating in international hockey. After the 4 Nations Face-Off last year, Tkachuk had to deal with the United States anthem being booed by Ottawa fans, as the tournament came in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to annex Canada, and Canadian fans using the opportunity to voice their displeasure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Now, as Tkachuk has returned from the 2026 Winter Olympics where the United States captured gold, he faces controversy again. As part of the celebration, the U.S. Olympic team visited the White House courtesy of Trump, and participated in the State of the Union address last week. However, considering the controversy surrounding Trump\u2019s presidency, including the fascist-like methods which ICE have operated in and Trump\u2019s links to Jeffrey Epstein, many hockey fans, particularly Canadian ones, were not happy with players visiting the White House during the current political climate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\"><a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tDyuAxJiW1Q&amp;t=3989s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" hreflang=\"en\">Tkachuk talked about playing in the Canadian market and the stresses that come with it on his podcast Wingmen<\/a> alongside his brother Matthew, and even compared it to how much easier his brother has it playing for a team with less media coverage in the <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/florida-panthers\/line-combinations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Panthers<\/a>, to which Matthew had a cheeky response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">\u201c[Matthew] is on a four-day bender, and I\u2019m just sitting [in Ottawa\/Canada] under the microscope,\u201d Brady said on the podcast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cHey Brady, we don\u2019t get asked these questions out in Florida,\u201d Matthew responded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">There have been some rumours surrounding Brady Tkachuk and his long-term future with the Senators, but nothing seriously at this point.
