A look at the courses of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montr\u00e9al\u00a0<\/p>\n
In just under 200 days, Montr\u00e9al will host the 2026 UCI Road World Championships. The discipline\u2019s flagship annual event will take place from 20 to 27 September in the Canadian metropolis, the largest city in the province of Quebec.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This will be the biggest sporting event organised in Montr\u00e9al since the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, with 13 events on the programme (individual time trials, road races and team time trial \u2013 mixed relay) and some 1,000 riders competing across the Elite, Under-23 and Junior categories, for both men and women.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Men Elite and Women Elite road races will start in Brossard, a city located south of Montr\u00e9al in the Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie region. The men will then pass through seven other municipalities in the region: Carignan, Chambly, Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Richelieu, Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Mathias-sur Richelieu. The women will ride through Brossard, Carignan, Chambly and Richelieu.<\/p>\n
This first part of the\u00a0 course along the South Shore of the St. Lawrence River will take the pelotons through vibrant autumnal\u00a0 orchards and pass through numerous towns celebrating their annual apple festivals, the regional speciality of this part of Quebec, as the harvest reaches its peak. <\/p>\n
Between rivers and hills, farmland and urban centres, the route will also offer an immersion into the rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie.<\/p>\n
The peloton will then head towards the\u00a0final Mount Royal circuit via the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge. Inaugurated in 1876 and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also created Central Park in New York (United States), Mount Royal is an iconic natural space in the heart of Montr\u00e9al and a great source of pride\u00a0 for its residents, renowned for its spectacular views, winding roads and unique heritage.<\/p>\n
Crossing the Samuel De Champlain Bridge \u2014 used for a sporting event for the first time \u2014 will offer striking views of the St Lawrence River and the Montr\u00e9al skyline.<\/p>\n
The final circuit, consisting of twelve laps for the men, eight for the women, will feature several major challenges: the Voie\u00a0 Camillien-Houde, the Chemin de la Polytechnique and its sections with gradients exceeding 11%, and the\u00a0 false flat rising along Avenue du Parc, which will serve as the finish for all 13 events. <\/p>\n
The Men Elite race will\u00a0 cover 273.7km with 3,803m of elevation gain, while the Women Elite race will span 180.4km with 2,570 m\u00a0 of elevation gain. <\/p>\n
Most of this circuit has been used since 2010 for the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montr\u00e9al, part\u00a0 of the UCI WorldTour.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For the\u00a0individual time trials, the\u00a0Men Elite and Women Elite\u00a0riders will share the same course (39.2km for\u00a0 220m elevation gain) laid out around Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
The route will notably pass through Old Montr\u00e9al, along the\u00a0 banks of the St. Lawrence River \u2013 using newly-created bike lanes that will form part of the events legacy \u2013 ,\u00a0 the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Parc Jean-Drapeau, an iconic park created\u00a0 for Expo 67, comprising two picturesque islands in the heart of the St. Lawrence River, before crossing the\u00a0 Concorde Bridge to return to the heart of the city.<\/p>\n

The UCI is also pleased to announce that anyone wishing to test themselves on the Mont Royal final circuit of the road races (13.4km with 269m elevation gain) may already ride it on their home trainer by connecting\u00a0 to the free-of-charge virtual indoor cycling platform MyWhoosh, Main Partner of the 2026 UCI Road World\u00a0 Championships.<\/a><\/p>\n A city of sport, culture and major events, Montr\u00e9al combines organisational expertise with passionate public\u00a0 support. Host of the annual Grand Prix Cycliste de Montr\u00e9al, a one-day men\u2019s event that, together with the\u00a0 Grand Prix Cycliste de Qu\u00e9bec are the only UCI WorldTour events in America, the city is set to write a new\u00a0 chapter of its cycling history this year, having previously staged the first UCI World Championships for road\u00a0 cycling held outside Europe, in 1974.\u00a0<\/p>\n
