{"id":516561,"date":"2026-03-05T19:27:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T19:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/516561\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T19:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T19:27:09","slug":"google-pledges-50-million-to-fight-superpollutants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/516561\/","title":{"rendered":"Google pledges $50 million to fight superpollutants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"1w5wn\">Superpollutants have been responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg1\/figures\/chapter-6\/figure-6-12\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">close to half of planetary warming<\/a>, and without action they\u2019ll continue to warm the planet rapidly in the decades to come.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"fh5dk\">That\u2019s why today we\u2019re announcing our plan to spend at least $50 million on projects designed to eliminate superpollutants \u2014 including methane, fluorinated gases, and other non-CO2 greenhouse gases \u2014 from now through 2030. And we\u2019re joined in this effort by other companies in the newly formed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/in\/news-releases\/beyond-alliance-leading-companies-will-direct-100m-to-cut-superpollutants-302701084.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Superpollutant Action Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"9vgp7\">As we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/eliminating-superpollutants-help-atmosphere-randy-spock-hurwe\/?trackingId=6h0PQjjo9eE6iFOFqwuZsQ%3D%3D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">continue to support<\/a> superpollutant elimination projects, we\u2019ll ensure our impact is catalytic and accurately measured and pave the way for additional companies and governments to follow. Since common superpollutants like methane are shorter lived than CO2, taking action against them helps address near-term rather than long-term warming, complementing our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/company-news\/outreach-and-initiatives\/sustainability\/our-progress-to-accelerate-carbon-removal-solutions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ongoing carbon removal efforts<\/a>.
