{"id":516579,"date":"2026-03-05T19:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T19:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/516579\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T19:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T19:44:08","slug":"marystown-disappointed-with-bay-du-nord-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/516579\/","title":{"rendered":"Marystown Disappointed with Bay du Nord Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/marystown-mayor-gerry-brenton.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"Marystown Disappointed with Bay du Nord Announcement\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marystown Mayor, Gerry Brenton<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor of Marystown says the Bay du Nord deal announced this week is \u201cbad news\u201d for Marystown, and the entire province.  <\/p>\n<p>The agreement reached with Equinor to develop Bay du Nord includes a funding proponent to build a floating dry dock facility, and 95 per cent of the subsea work to be carried out at Bull Arm.<\/p>\n<p>Open bids will be accepted for topsides work, but there are no guarantees it will be done here. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor Gerry Brenton says the issue was raised during the recent election campaign. He believes at least some of the topsides components should be built in this province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a major FPSO; this is the biggest thing that we have ever seen, and this should be a Newfoundland project. It should be in Bull Arm, it should be in Marystown, it should be in Stephenville, it should be in Port aux Basques.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p>Brenton believes all the topsides work was \u201cgiven away\u201d for a $200 million fabrication fund.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a drydock!
