A summary of the latest Oilers trade rumours and chatter ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline

We’re less than a day away from the 2026 NHL trade deadline, and there’s no shortage of things going on, as the Edmonton Oilers have been one of the busier teams in recent days. They swung a pair of trades with the Chicago Blackhawks, picking up defenceman Connor Murphy on Monday in exchange for a second-round pick in 2028, swinging another deal Wednesday to pick up centre Jason Dickinson and forward Colton Dach for Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional first-round pick in 2027.

So, what’s next for the Oilers?

Likely not much

Oilers general manager Stan Bowman spoke to the media Thursday, indicating that the majority of Edmonton’s work is done.

“We’re going to spend the next 24 hours talking through [it]. I would imagine that we’re done, but I don’t expect to make other moves,” said Bowman.

“But part of our job is to see what’s out there. If I’m looking at where we’re at, I think any further addition wouldn’t be a significant one, if it is, in a depth role. Something that made sense – certainly would look at it. But most likely, I would say, this is our team.”

Read between the lines, and they might nibble around the edge for some depth help, but there’s no big, flashy deal to be made. That is, of course, unless something wild happens, but there doesn’t seem to be much that way coming.

Money talks

The fiscal situation for the Edmonton Oilers is the biggest thing that would hold them back from further moves.

According to PuckPedia, if the Oilers ran their current roster as is for night one of the playoffs, they would have $2 million in cap space, which could increase to $2.275 million if the team sent down Josh Samanski and Dach.

There’s room to play, for sure, but is there anything the Oilers really want to jump in on?

A.J. Greer?

One player the Oilers could check in on is Florida Panthers winger A.J. Greer. He has size, standing at 6-foot-3, 209 pounds, and is someone the team knows well from their battles in the last two Stanley Cup finals.

The 29-year-old Greer has appeared in 61 games this year, scoring 11 goals and 22 points, and has laid 159 hits, which would rank second on the Oilers next to Vasily Podkolzin.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun was on OverDrive Thursday, and when they were talking about the Oilers, LeBrun brought up Greer.

“I’m really curious to see where AJ Greer ends up tomorrow,” said LeBrun. “As a fourth-line guy on a playoff team, he only makes $850,000.”

He’s a pending UFA with a cheap contract, one the Oilers would be able to fit in with ease, and he could help provide some further edge to their bottom six.

Pierre LeBrun: It wouldn’t surprise me if both Montreal and Edmonton have some interest in AJ Greer – Melnick in the Afternoon (3/4)

Other Pacific Division teams busy

While the Oilers appear to have most of their work done, some Pacific Division rivals will have their hands full.

Some of the players the Vancouver Canucks could be looking to move are Evander Kane, Conor Garland, Teddy Blueger, David Kämpf, and Drew O’Connor. Could an Elias Pettersson trade formulate? That would be a big shoe to drop.

The Calgary Flames, meanwhile, might do some Calgary Flames-esque things, and hold onto some of their top talents. Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman are two of their top options to be traded, not long after Mackenzie Weegar was sent to Utah, but Darren Dreger said not so fast.

He reported on OverDrive that Flames ownership is getting involved, that they don’t want to retain money on Kadri, and would need a big offer to move Coleman.

Never change, Flames.

Darren Dreger on the #Flames

– Calgary does not want to retain on Nazem Kadri
– Montreal is interested in Kadri if Calgary retains some $
– Ownership is heavily involved
– The Flames love Zach Whitecloud and Blake Coleman
– Would need pretty big offers to consider trading them

Zach Laing is Oilersnation’s managing editor, and The Nation Network’s news director.
