Singh Foundation matches donations after Surrey school fire<\/p>\n

Following a fire at Woodland Park Elementary, the Singh Foundation has committed to match community donations towards new technology for the students and teachers.<\/p>\n
The foundation is matching donations dollar for dollar to support the launch of a new technology program for Woodland Park students, Surrey Schools has announced.<\/p>\n
From now to March 17, every contribution made will be doubled until Surrey Schools reaches its goal of $70,000, which will directly support Woodland Park students with this new technology.<\/p>\n
On Jan. 30, a fire disrupted learning for the students of Woodland Park Elementary, forcing intermediate classes to relocate to Regent Road Elementary<\/a> while primary students shifted to the modular building on-site that was not affected.<\/p>\n Even though classrooms are divided across locations, the school community shares they\u2019ve been working tirelessly to rebuild stability and keep the students learning and moving forward.<\/p>\n Surrey Schools explained that in the weeks following the fire, their immediate focus was in replacing basic school supplies so learning could continue.<\/p>\n \u201cThanks to the generosity of the community, those essentials are being replenished,\u201d said a post from Surrey Schools. \u201cWith those needs met, our attention has shifted to a new opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n The district has now set their focus on strengthening Woodland Park\u2019s access to technology.<\/p>\n As of right now Woodland Park is seeking support for:<\/p>\n \u2022 30 MacBook laptops<\/p>\n \u2022 30 iPads<\/p>\n \u2022 charging carts<\/p>\n \u2022 Apple Pencils and keyboards<\/p>\n \u2022 a 3D printer and materials<\/p>\n \u2022 LEGO VEX robotics kits<\/p>\n \u2022 Ozobots and MBot classroom sets<\/p>\n The school district says that this is more than just an investment in devices.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the most meaningful next steps in recovery is giving students and staff something exciting and positive to focus on as they rebuild,\u201d said Surrey Schools. \u201cIt is an opportunity to restore normalcy, spark creativity, and give students something exciting to look forward to as they move forward after the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n The Singh Foundation has also shared with the school district that they are committed to investing in Surrey Schools long term.
