UPDATE: Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden reopens early<\/p>\n

Avalanche control in the west side of Glacier National Park has finished early Friday, reopening part of the Trans-Canada Highway that closed for nearly two hours between Revelstoke and Golden.<\/p>\n

About 10 kilometres of Highway 1 around the West Gate of Rogers Pass was shut to traffic at 9 a.m. PST March 6, and scheduled to finally reopen at 2 p.m. after intermittent closures of up to two hours.<\/p>\n

But shortly before 11 a.m., avalanche control operations staff gave the cue via radio to reopen the highway there for the day.<\/p>\n

According to DriveBC, the route was closed and no detour was available, to enable critical operations that mitigate avalanche risk to motorists and the national railway.<\/p>\n

The rest of the Revelstoke-Golden route on either side of the closure has remained open to motorists, including the Rogers Pass summit and Albert Canyon area.<\/p>\n

However, avalanche risk in Glacier remains considerable, with danger in the alpine, treeline and below projected by Parks Canada to be high this weekend.<\/p>\n

The only winter restricted areas open to backcountry users Friday are East Rogers and Shaughnessy, in the park\u2019s east side.<\/p>\n
