{"id":518938,"date":"2026-03-06T21:16:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T21:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/518938\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T21:16:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T21:16:14","slug":"affordable-broadway-concert-coming-to-mississauga-brampton-and-other-ontario-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/518938\/","title":{"rendered":"Affordable Broadway concert coming to Mississauga, Brampton and other Ontario cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a time when spending is a tough subject for many, musical fans might be happy to hear that they don\u2019t have to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy high-calibre Broadway classics on stage.<\/p>\n<p>This week, a popular concert tour that\u2019s been bringing beloved Andrew Lloyd Webber (the composer behind such Broadway favourites as Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard and Evita) to Canadian cities both big and small, is kicking off for the last time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Music of the Night: The Concert Tour will kick off its final tour in Hamilton at the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre on March 6, then visit various venues across the country before hosting one last performance on April 4 in Moncton, N.B.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tour, created by Sound the Alarm: Music\/Theatre, a company that raises awareness of social and cultural issues through large-scale performing arts initiatives that often stop in underserved rural communities, will feature a live band and powerhouse singers who will belt out some of Webber\u2019s greatest hits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve made it a big priority to go to smaller communities along the way, places like Manitou in Manitoba with a population of about 1,000 people,\u201d Alan Corbishley, founder of STA, tells INsauga.com, adding that the show managed to fill the 300-seat Manitou Opera House.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1684\" height=\"1062\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-798567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-06-at-3.01.55-PM.png\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772645772_111_awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe go to smaller, underserved communities with high-end, world-class productions.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Spring 2026 tour will make stops in over two dozen southern Ontario towns and cities before heading to the Maritimes for the first time. After the Hamilton show, the cast and crew will make their way to the Niagara Falls Convention Centre on March 7, the FirstOntario Arts Centre in Milton on March 11, the Rose Theatre in Brampton on March 13, the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga on March 27 and the Pickering Casino Resort on March 28.<\/p>\n<p>In between those stops, performances will be held in theatres in Brantford, Barrie, Parry Sound, Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Lindsay, Belleville, Guelph, Chatham and London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The show will feature performances by tenor Adam Fisher (Jesus Christ Superstar, South Pacific), Cailin Stadnyk (Come From Away, FUBAR), baritone Nathan Keoughan (La reine-gar\u00e7on), Alexandra Grant and Aaron Hastelow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-798570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Musicofthenight3-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Corbishley says the tour, which has been travelling since 2019 (with a COVID-related break), has been well-received. That said, he acknowledges that getting people into the theatre can feel like an uphill battle post-pandemic as the economy faces ongoing challenges and people cut back on leisure activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the most part, we tend to get a great response. People appreciate the effort. The economy at the moment is tricky and people are a little more decisive as to what they\u2019ll see and what they won\u2019t. It\u2019s a different situation at the moment,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That said, STA, which also produced the follow-up A Whole New World Tour, has enjoyed momentum since its founding almost 10 years ago. One thing Corbishley attributes to its success is its focus on beloved, classic songs that most people know and know well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe grew exponentially since COVID and did really well. We\u2019re a bit of an anomaly post-COVID. People really wanted to go out to show they knew and knew the repertoire, so we did really well,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The STA, which got its start in Vancouver in 2017, has sold over 100,000 tickets to its productions and credits its growth entirely to ticket revenue, a model the company says sets it apart in the arts industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-798569\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Musicofthenight2-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>STA recently toured BC with Ebony Roots, a show celebrating people of African descent, and also showcased Angel\u2019s Bone, an acclaimed opera that explores human trafficking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Music of the Night, Corbishley says, captures audiences not with solemn or cautionary content, but with nostalgia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all the greatest hits of Andrew Lloyd Webber, so you get all his greatest stuff and most satisfying repertoire all in one go. It brings a lot of joy and nostalgia at a time when we really need it. It\u2019s a bit of escapism from the real world and allows everyone to just immerse themselves in memories from the 70s and 80s when Webber was such a phenomenon and people were so excited about what was happening in their theatres, and Phantom of the Opera being the pinnacle of that,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Corbishley says younger audiences might be less familiar with Webber\u2019s work and more aware of recent musical phenomena such as\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0and\u00a0Wicked, the tour is travelling across the country at a time when some of his most famous productions are being showcased in major cities worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWebber is having a resurgence right now. Nicole Scherzinger just won a Tony for her performance in Sunset Boulevard and there\u2019s a new Starlight Express production in London,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor audience members, a lot of people bring their grandkids. It\u2019s an experience they know their children or the younger generation should experience. Everyone should experience the Phantom of the Opera once.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The shows, he says, are simple but powerful, offering audiences in oft-overlooked places access to incredible songs, talented singers and timeless music.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have powerhouse singers, some of the best in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Corbishley is also aware of the impact of affordable pricing on turnout, especially amid economic uncertainty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe donate tickets to underprivileged families, and in Brampton, tickets are offered at tiered prices, starting at $37.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The show also offers its lowest-priced tickets to those in need of economic relief, with its website stating that more affordable tickets are available to those who feel \u201cthey need a lower price.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand the economy is tricky at present, so we offer this price to anyone who feels they need a lower price.
