(AP) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/team-page\/las-vegas-raiders\/292\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/team-page\/las-vegas-raiders\/292\" target=\"_blank\">Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> began the makeover of their offensive line Friday by releasing eight-year veteran guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/alex-cappa\/310117\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/alex-cappa\/310117\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Cappa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He played in all 17 games last season, starting eight. Cappa was a full-time starter his previous six seasons in Tampa Bay and Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This figures to be the first of a handful of moves under first-year coach Klint Kubiak to better protect quarterback Fernando Mendoza, widely expected to be the top pick of the NFL draft. The Raiders allowed a league-high 64 sacks behind a struggling offensive line that also experienced several significant injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/geno-smith\/7945\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/geno-smith\/7945\" target=\"_blank\">Geno Smith<\/a> is likely to be released before the beginning of the league year Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Las Vegas also would like to bolster the front to create more running opportunities for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/ashton-jeanty-1038587\/1038587\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/ashton-jeanty-1038587\/1038587\" target=\"_blank\">Ashton Jeanty<\/a>, the sixth pick in last year\u2019s draft.
