WINNIPEG \u2013 Competing in a University of Calgary Dinos uniform for the final time, fifth-year standout Sienna MacDonald<\/a> capped her illustrious university career with yet another U SPORTS record to headline another big day for the Dinos Friday.<\/p>\n One day after breaking a program record, the Dinos took down a pair of records and claimed four medals in the second day of action from the 2026 U SPORTS Track & Field Championships inside the James Daly Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n Already coming into the day with the national record in women’s long jump, MacDonald surpassed that mark on her second attempt with a leap of 6.34m before resetting the mark one more time at 6.36m to claim the sixth U SPORTS gold medal of her Dinos career.<\/p>\n Just minutes earlier, MacDonald also brought home a silver medal in the 60m hurdles. Also owning the U SPORTS record in that event, it was a photo-finish that saw Saskatchewan’s Nicole Ostertag (8.05) edge MacDonald (8.06) out by a mere one-one hundredth of a second to knock off the two-time defending champ. That came after MacDonald hit the world indoor standard with a time of 8.02 seconds in prelims.<\/p>\n “It’s a good way to end my U SPORTS career,” smiled MacDonald. “I think my mindset going into a lot of events is to have fun. I’m a little bit different to most of my competitors in that way. I keep it serious when I need to, but I like to be un-serious. I was standing on the long jump runway before I started, and I was just dancing and singing. I enjoy the process, and I know if I take myself too seriously, that’s when things go wrong. I’m here to have fun, to do what I can and live in the moment.”<\/p>\n In men’s long jump, newcomer Michael Akintunde<\/a> brought home a bronze medal with a leap of 7.24m, while River Sanoy<\/a> also scored with a seventh-place finish at 6.84m.<\/p>\n Just two weeks removed from their big showing at conference, Calgary’s standout high jump crew was at it again. Noel Vanderzee<\/a> had his best performance of the year and claimed the silver medal after clearing the bar at 2.15m without a miss before bowing out. Dominic Anamali<\/a> also continued his hot streak, getting over the bar at 2.03m for sixth at nationals.<\/p>\n One night after the Dinos men’s 4x200m relay broke the program record, Calgary’s men’s 4x800m relay made it 2-for-2 on that front. Kai Deausy<\/a>, Max Cook<\/a>, Phoenix Bouma<\/a> and Ethan Meyer<\/a> combined to cross the line in 7:36.40 \u2013 crushing the previous mark of 7:37.90 set back in 2011. That time also earned the team a fifth-place finish at this year’s meet.<\/p>\n In other action, Meyer also scored in the men’s 1000m run, taking fifth in 2:25.02. Georgia Oland<\/a> (39.87) and Ethan Parnetta<\/a> (34.34) both placed ninth in their respective 300m races on the day. Matthew Minchin<\/a> had a nice showing in men’s weight throw with a toss of 16.81m for ninth place, and William Kuzuchar<\/a> capped a strong rookie campaign by placing 13th in the 60m hurdles.<\/p>\n Closing things out, the women’s 4x800m relay of Csenia Irvin<\/a>, Lauren Westlake<\/a>, Vienna Selland<\/a> and Jenna Conrad<\/a> came in 10th overall in 9:07.22.<\/p>\n The final day of this year’s national meet gets underway Saturday at 11:30 a.m. MT.<\/p>\n -UC-
