{"id":520471,"date":"2026-03-07T13:31:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T13:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/520471\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T13:31:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T13:31:16","slug":"police-investigate-after-shots-fired-at-thornhill-synagogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/520471\/","title":{"rendered":"Police investigate after shots fired at Thornhill synagogue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in York Region are investigating a shooting at a synagogue on Friday night. <\/p>\n<p>Investigators say they were called to the Clark Avenue and York Hill Boulevard area just before midnight for reports of shots fired. <\/p>\n<p>When they arrived, they found the front of the Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue had been damaged by gunfire. <\/p>\n<p>Police say no one was injured in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate suspect description, but police said a dark sedan was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Vaughan mayor Steven Del Duca said he is both \u201cdisgusted and angered\u201d by this latest synagogue shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know this hateful and anti-semitic act will affect my Jewish residents deeply,\u201d he wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StevenDelDuca\/status\/2030264475912159655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">social media post<\/a>, while calling out inaction by various levels of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo much inaction and repeated weak responses from too many leaders have permitted this behaviour to become normalized. I have no doubt that many will take to social media to denounce what\u2019s occurred, and then leave it at that. But words stopped being enough long ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police say they are establishing a command post at Promenade Mall to answer questions and address any concerns from the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police in York Region are investigating a shooting at a synagogue on Friday night.
