{"id":520835,"date":"2026-03-07T17:35:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T17:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/520835\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T17:35:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T17:35:12","slug":"toronto-woman-charged-in-2024-jane-and-lawrence-homicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/520835\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto woman charged in 2024 Jane and Lawrence homicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Toronto woman has been extradited from Jamaica and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in a North York plaza two years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65356\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65356\/\">news release<\/a>, Toronto police say officers responded to a call for a shooting in a plaza on the northwest corner of Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at around 7:28 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators say a man who had been shot was located at the scene and was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The victim was later identified as 42-year-old Anthony McBean of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police say two suspects were identified through the investigation and were believed to have fled to Jamaica following the killing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Friday, March 6, 2026, Debbie Jones, 43, of Toronto, was extradited from Kingston, Jamaica, and returned to Canada, where she was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She is scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Officials have not released a photo of Jones. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, the second suspect who police identified as 37-year-old Ricardo Manuel Bailey, remains wanted for second-degree murder and is also believed to have fled to Jamaica.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The case was Toronto\u2019s 66th homicide of 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Anyone with information is asked to contact police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Toronto woman has been extradited from Jamaica and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":520836,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[194291],"tags":[712,49,48,3302],"class_list":["post-520835","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-toronto","tag-apple-news","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-toronto"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/520835","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=520835"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/520835\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/520836"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=520835"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=520835"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=520835"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
