{"id":521017,"date":"2026-03-07T19:28:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T19:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/521017\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T19:28:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T19:28:16","slug":"724-vehicles-stolen-so-far-in-2026-in-mississauga-and-brampton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/521017\/","title":{"rendered":"724 vehicles stolen so far in 2026 in Mississauga and Brampton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The bad news is that 724 vehicles have been stolen in Mississauga and Brampton since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that the number has dropped over the same time period as one year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Still, that \u201cgood\u201d news is of little comfort to the 724 victims who have had their car, truck, or SUV stolen in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The data, from the Peel Regional Police Crime Occurrence Mapping Portal, shows that the bad guys split their target areas, with Mississauga experiencing 384 thefts and Brampton recording 340.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, between Jan. 1 and March 7, 851 vehicles were stolen in Mississauga and Brampton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe numbers are down, so that is a good sign,\u201d said a law enforcement official who spoke to INsauga.com. \u201cBut it is still a problem. A major one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772645772_111_awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>The official, who asked not to be named, said other crimes, such as extortion, have been front and centre in Peel Region the past few months, which has shifted the attention away from the car theft issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust because we are not hearing about it that much, doesn\u2019t mean it is not happening,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said the decline in numbers indicates that measures taken by Peel Police to combat vehicle theft are working and should continue to be effective.<\/p>\n<p>While the map shows that no neighbourhood is safe from car thieves in the two cities, there are a few pockets that have been targeted more frequently.<\/p>\n<p>In Mississauga, those areas include Cooksville, Malton and the northeast quadrant of Highways 410 and 401.
