We regret to inform you that there are apparently some problems so drastic that not even an AI Bill Clinton impression<\/a> can fix them: Seth MacFarlane has revealed that he currently has \u201cno plan\u201d to make a third season of his Peacock series\u00a0Ted because, turns out, that CGI weed-smoking teddy bear is kind of expensive to keep putting on the screen.<\/p>\n

Comparing the show\u2019s costs and logistical overhead to \u201cdoing an\u00a0Avengers movie every 22 minutes,\u201d MacFarlane told\u00a0The Wrap this week<\/a> that \u201cWhat I kept hearing [from Peacock and Universal] was, \u2018Listen, the show is really expensive to produce and there\u2019s no way to do it at a lower cost.\u2019 So I said, \u2018All right, I hear you loud and clear.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Although there\u2019s been no formal decision on whether the show would get a third season, MacFarlane points out that he and his writers very deliberately wrote the show\u2019s second-season finale (which aired this week) to serve as a potential series ender, with main character John (Max Burkholder) committing to getting really buff (presumably so that he can be played by Mark Wahlberg in the future Ted<\/a>\u00a0movies). \u201cSo [showrunners] Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan and I kind of painted ourselves into a corner,\u201d MacFarlane noted. \u201cIs there a way to do it? There\u2019s always a way to do anything. But at the moment, it might take some narrative acrobatics. There\u2019s no plan that I\u2019ve heard of at the moment to do Season 3.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deadline\u00a0notes<\/a> that MacFarlane\u00a0does\u00a0have a bit of an out here: He and his team are reportedly already working on a fully animated Ted\u00a0spin-off, which will presumably get around all those pesky cost overruns by going pure cartoon.
