{"id":521826,"date":"2026-03-08T04:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T04:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/521826\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T04:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T04:32:07","slug":"east-toronto-affected-by-large-power-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/521826\/","title":{"rendered":"East Toronto affected by large power outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At least 5,000 households are in the dark due to a power outage that is impacting a large swath of Toronto\u2019s east end, including parts of East York as well as southwest Scarborough, on Saturday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Residents in several neighbourhoods including The Beach, Upper Beach, Leslieville, Taylor-Massey, Woodbine Gardens, Oakridge, Birchmount Park, and even Scarborough Junction are affected by the power disruption, which was reported shortly before 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The boundaries of the outage run roughly from Greenwood Avenue to the west, south along Queen Street East and Danforth Road, north of Danforth and St. Clair avenues, and all the way east of Brimley Road.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/VXX6FCQ5CBC6LBT72N5VBRFT6M.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"1066\"\/>Fox Theatre March 7 power outage An outside shot of the darkened Fox Theatre on Queen Street East in the Beach during a power outage on March 7. (Alex Winch photo) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto Hydro tells CP24 that is it \u201caware of an ongoing outage in the east end of the city and are in the process of collecting more details.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe will follow up with more information shortly,\u201d a spokesperson wrote in an email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">IN a follow-up statment, the electricity comapny said the cause of the ongoing disruption is \u201cdue to a loss of supply from Hydro One.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe outage is currently affecting over 3,000 customers in and around the boundaries of Danforth Ave \/ Queen St \/ Victoria Park Ave \/ Greenwood Ave \u2014 down from more than 13,000 earlier this evening,\u201c Toronto Hydro said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe are working closely with Hydro One to support restoration efforts and appreciate our customers\u2019 patience as work continues.
