(iStock)<\/p>\n<p>The American Dental Association (ADA) says it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ada.org\/resources\/research\/science\/evidence-based-dental-research\/oral-cancer-guideline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">updating its recommendations<\/a> on early oral cancer detection, citing advances in diagnostic technologies and the need for clearer clinical guidance.<\/p>\n<p>The updated recommendations explore the use of four adjunctive tools used in screening for oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders.<\/p>\n<p>The guidance was developed in collaboration with the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdvances in diagnostic technologies and living guideline methodologies have created a need for updated guidance on early cancer detection,\u201d the ADA said, noting that biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosing oral cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oralhealthgroup.com\/clinical\/dental-research\/us6m-in-new-nih-funding-to-find-treatment-for-growing-oral-cancer-and-its-pain-relief-1003991842\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">US$6M in new NIH funding to find treatment for \u2018growing\u2019 oral cancer and its pain relief<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oralhealthgroup.com\/clinical\/dental-research\/researchers-explore-repurposing-egfr-inhibitors-to-manage-oral-cancer-pain-and-opioid-tolerance-1003993265\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Researchers explore repurposing EGFR inhibitors to manage oral cancer pain and opioid tolerance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The guidance will be released as a multi-part series throughout 2026, with the first instalment examining cytology adjuncts.
