{"id":522874,"date":"2026-03-08T16:48:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T16:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/522874\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T16:48:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T16:48:14","slug":"vancouver-hotel-prices-see-wild-spike-during-fifa-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/522874\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver hotel prices see wild spike during FIFA World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vancouver is officially under 100 days away from the FIFA World Cup, and if you\u2019re coming to the city for it and haven\u2019t booked accommodations yet, the hotel prices might make your head spin like a soccer ball.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a quick look at rates on the travel agency Expedia, there\u2019s a notable spike in prices when comparing dates this spring versus FIFA World Cup 2026 dates.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA will be in town between June 11 and July 19, and booking at any point in that window shows quite the spike compared to dates before that period at the same hotels.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the biggest matches Vancouver spectators will be able to watch will be in July, so we\u2019ve looked at how much it\u2019ll cost you to stay in Vancouver during that period of the FIFA World Cup, versus a random week in April.<\/p>\n<p>These prices are from Expedia.ca and were recorded on March 6.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve plugged in dates for July 1 to 9 and April 12 to 20.<\/p>\n<p>A room at the OPUS Hotel Vancouver will run you around $426 per night in April.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"vancouver fifa hotel\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1549\" height=\"400\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2250135\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Image-2026-03-06-at-11.52-AM.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2250135\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The nightly rate for April 12 to 20. (Expedia.ca)<\/p>\n<p>Some hotels are flat-out sold out in early July, like the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1534\" height=\"372\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2250152\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Image-2026-03-06-at-11.59-AM.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2250152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Expedia.ca<\/p>\n<p>Even a hotel outside of the Vancouver area is seeing this sort of price hike during FIFA, including hotels in Richmond and Burnaby.<\/p>\n<p>Hotel prices always fluctuate, so your mileage may vary and may not resemble these exact prices, depending on when you conduct your search.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning on watching the Team Canada matchups in Vancouver in June, you can also expect a spike in prices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTravellers can expect even higher increases at Vancouver hotels across hotel types with rates three to eight times the cost around match dates (versus March 2026),\u201d according to data from Hotels.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearby Surrey is also seeing\u00a0a notable\u00a045\u00a0per cent\u00a0spike in searches for accommodation around those dates,\u201d Hotels.com adds.<\/p>\n<p>The Hotels.com app offers price alerts in case you\u2019re hoping to monitor changing prices.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is for sure, though, particularly when noting that hotels are already sold out: Vancouver and the surrounding area are about to get a whole lot busier.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just FIFA that is going to contribute to the demand for hotels and business in the region.<\/p>\n<p>A crazy summer punctuated by the FIFA World Cup<br \/>\n<img alt=\"disney wonder cruise ship vancouver canada place\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1075\" height=\"605\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2104905\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disney-wonder-cruise-ship-vancouver-canada-place-4.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2104905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Disney Wonder cruise ship at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. (Kenneth Chan\/Daily Hive)<\/p>\n<p>FIFA isn\u2019t the only thing contributing to a wild summer in 2026, as Vancouver is bracing for a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/vancouver-canada-place-2026-cruise-ship-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">record-breaking<\/a> cruise ship season.<\/p>\n<p>The season then truly kicks into high gear, with cruise ships arriving at Canada Place almost every day from May 1 to Oct. 4.
