{"id":522893,"date":"2026-03-08T16:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T16:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/522893\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T16:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T16:59:08","slug":"vuelta-a-extremadura-mackenzie-coupland-delivers-double-win-with-stage-and-gc-on-final-day-in-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/522893\/","title":{"rendered":"Vuelta a Extremadura: Mackenzie Coupland delivers double win with stage and GC on final day in Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"c34ee94a-253d-434a-ad58-777022627832\">Australian road race national champion Mackenzie Coupland (Liv AlUla Jayco) outsprinted Lauren Dickson (FDJ United-SUEZ) to win the final stage and GC at the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/vuelta-a-extremadura-femenina\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/vuelta-a-extremadura-femenina\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/vuelta-a-extremadura-femenina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The duo had surged away on the slightly uphill finish into Jara\u00edz de la Vera from two other breakaway companions, leaving Talia Appleton (Liv AlUla Jayco) to take the final podium spot well ahead of Nikola Noskov\u00e1 (Cofidis Women).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"c34ee94a-253d-434a-ad58-777022627832-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">As a consolation prize, Dickson earned the mountains classification title. Coupland, just 20, retained the white jersey for the youth classification.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">A total of 95 riders took the start for a 139.4km stage 3, with fifth place rider Antonia Niedermaier (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) the most notable to not line up in Jerte.<\/p>\n<p>The third day of racing featured four categorised climbs, opening with Alto de la Puria in the first 20km, then 30km further the 15.4km-long Piornal, with an average of 5% gradient. Once across the summit of Alto de la Desesper\u00e1, nearly 9% gradient, for the first time at with 71km to go in the race, the peloton passed the finish line for the first time. They took a large loop to return on a longer approach of the Desesper\u00e1, 5.8km at 7.4%, to then descent the final 18.3km to the finish in Jara\u00edz de la Vera.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The peloton remained together across the opening pair of climbs, with Dickson scoring top points aon Alto de la Puria, just ahead of her teammate Brodie Chapman, which gave Dickson the QOM lead.<\/p>\n<p>As the peloton crossed Alto de la Desesper\u00e1 for the first time, Agua Marina Esp\u00ednola (Team Abadie Magnan) moved into the QOM lead as the first rider at the top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>Bonus points were on offer for the first pass of the finish line, Eva van Agt (FDJ United &#8211; SUEZ) surging ahead of Noskov\u00e1. The duo moved away from the peloton with 50km to go. UAE Team ADQ worked at the front for Brodie Chapman and Maeva Squiban, the duo sitting second and third overall.<\/p>\n<p>On the second pass of Desesper\u00e1, the 1:30 margin was fading as Lidl-Trek did work to close down the breakaway.
