<\/p>\n SARTELL, Minn. \u2013 The St. Olaf College men’s tennis team improved to 2-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play with a 6-1 victory over Saint John’s University on Sunday at Sta-Fit.<\/p>\n In its first MIAC match in over three weeks, St. Olaf (3-4, 2-1 MIAC) took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and went on to win five of the six singles matches to top Saint John’s (0-3, 0-3 MIAC). The win was the third in a row in the series for the Oles after the Johnnies won seven in a row from 2016-23.<\/p>\n St. Olaf got out to a 1-0 lead after doubles thanks to wins from the pairs of sophomore Lou Smith<\/a> and junior Marjan Veldic<\/a> and sophomores Daniel Meunier<\/a> and Mason Ramirez<\/a>, who both picked up their first victories of the season as pairings. Smith and Veldic recorded a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Meunier and Ramirez registered a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles to offset the Johnnies’ 6-3 win atop the lineup.<\/p>\n Vizoli, Veldic, and Smith all lost four games or fewer in their straight-set victories at the top-three singles spots, with Vizoli improving to 3-0 in conference play at No. 1 singles with his 6-4, 6-0 win. Sophomore Jacob Schultz<\/a> also got to 3-0 in the MIAC with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 singles, while sophomore Madden Vanderwerf<\/a> fought back from dropping the first set in a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) victory at No. 4 singles.<\/p>\n St. Olaf is slated to play its first home outdoor match against Saint Mary’s University at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 at Carlson Courts.
