Here is a look at the key storylines and the upcoming schedule for the Edmonton Oilers for the week of March 8 to March 15, 2026.

The Trade Deadline Haul

The Oilers were highly active right before the trade deadline, making two major deals with the Chicago Blackhawks.

General Manager Stan Bowman acquired veteran right-shot defenseman Connor Murphy to bolster the penalty kill, along with centers Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. To make it happen, Edmonton traded away Andrew Mangiapane and a 2027 conditional first-round pick.

Goaltending Questions Remain

Despite major struggles in net—with both Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram underperforming—Bowman stated the team is done making moves. This shut down the heavy speculation that Edmonton was going to make a blockbuster push for a big-name goalie like Sergei Bobrovsky or Jordan Binnington.

Janmark’s Season-Ending Surgery

On March 6, it was announced that veteran forward Mattias Janmark underwent surgery for an undisclosed injury and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, including the playoffs. The team expects him to be ready for training camp next season.

A Defensive Skid and the Playoff Push

The Oilers are currently fighting to hold onto their playoff spot (sitting third in the Pacific Division). However, they have hit a rough patch, losing six of their last eight games—including a 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday—and allowing a concerning 56 goals over their last 12 games. Tightening up their five-on-five defense is the team’s top priority this week.

Oilers Upcoming Schedule

The Oilers are staring down a grueling four-game road trip against heavy-hitting Western Conference opponents. They will be tested immediately by playoff contenders in Vegas, Colorado, and Dallas, capped off by a difficult back-to-back against the Stars and the Blues.

With their recent defensive struggles, this road trip will be a trial by fire for their new acquisitions (Murphy and Dickinson) to see if they can help stem the bleeding and provide better support for Jarry and Ingram. They finally return to Rogers Place on Sunday to host Nashville.
