{"id":52442,"date":"2025-08-07T16:38:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T16:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/52442\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T16:38:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T16:38:08","slug":"almost-25m-worth-of-suspected-cocaine-seized-at-sarnia-area-border-crossing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/52442\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost $25M worth of suspected cocaine seized at Sarnia-area border crossing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Caledon man has been charged after suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of nearly $25 million was seized at a Canada-U.S. border crossing near Sarnia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said on July 23 a commercial truck arriving from the United States at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry, in the community of Point Edward, was referred for a secondary examination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">During an inspection of the vehicle\u2019s trailer, border services officers allegedly located seven bags containing bricks of suspected cocaine. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The total weight of the suspected narcotics was 197 kilograms, with an estimated street value of $24.6 million, CBSA said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Onkar Kalsi, 29, of Caledon, was subsequently arrested andwas transferred to the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He has since been charged by the RCMP with importation of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The CBSA said between Jan. 1 and July 10, it seized 1,164 kg of cocaine originating from the United States, alongside 514 kg from other countries combined. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Caledon man has been charged after suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of nearly $25 million&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":52443,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[712,43,44,41,39,42,40],"class_list":["post-52442","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-apple-news","tag-headlines","tag-news","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/52442","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=52442"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/52442\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/52443"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=52442"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=52442"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=52442"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
