{"id":524532,"date":"2026-03-09T12:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T12:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/524532\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T12:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T12:38:08","slug":"tvnz-extends-multi-year-content-deal-with-sony-pictures-tv-reports-revenue-slip-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/524532\/","title":{"rendered":"TVNZ extends multi-year content deal with Sony Pictures TV, reports revenue slip | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Television New Zealand (TVNZ) has renewed its long-term content agreement with Sony Pictures Television (SPTV) covering programming for its streaming platform TVNZ+ and broadcast channels TVNZ 1, 2 and DUKE.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-679565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/jodi-odonnell-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"   \/><\/p>\n<p>The extended multi-year deal will include forthcoming series The Miniature Wife from Media Res Studios, four-parter Dear England from Left Bank Pictures, The Other Bennet Sister from Bad Wolf and Stan\/BBC coproduction Lord of the Flies.<\/p>\n<p>TVNZ\u2019s chief news and content officer Nadia Tolich said the deal cemented the broadcaster\u2019s partnership with SPTV, \u201cbringing more of Sony\u2019s premium entertainment content free to audiences right across Aotearoa [New Zealand], however they choose to watch with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, TVNZ reported net profit after tax of NZ$2.4m (US$1.41m) for the six months to the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>It also revealed a decline in total revenue of 12% on the previous corresponding period, down to NZ$134m, citing continued market disruption of the advertising market from international tech platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Jodi O\u2019Donnell, TVNZ\u2019s CEO, said 2026 would be a \u201cdefining year\u201d for the broadcaster with its move to a digital first strategy fully in motion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re investing now to ensure TVNZ is the place New Zealanders choose first for the news, entertainment and sport they love.
