The Sikome Aquatic Facility, located in Fish Creek Provincial Park, is undergoing some major renovations for the first time since its opening in the late 1970s.<\/p>\n

According to Alberta Parks, the upgrades are aimed at creating a more modern provincial park experience for visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cVisitation to the facility, mirroring Alberta\u2019s population growth, has exponentially increased since it opened in the late 1970s. Sikome is nearly 50 years old, and its infrastructure is aging. There is a need to update the facility to provide a modern urban provincial park visitor experience. This will support future use as well as Parks Division\u2019s goal to connect Albertans with nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Planned work includes replacing existing admission booths and renovations to five buildings at the facility. The upgrades include adding washrooms to the concession and beach shop, creating a water safety centre in the north change house, and adding washrooms to the south change house.<\/p>\n

The south administration building will also be converted into a beach house available for public reservations, while the staff services building will undergo renovations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sikome Aquatic Facility is an artificial beach that consists of a swimming lake surrounded by a beach, lawn, playgrounds, pathways and change rooms. It\u2019s a very popular summer spot in Calgary, attracting over 100,000 guests per summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Construction started in December 2025 and is expected to continue until Summer 2026, during the facility\u2019s off-season. Alberta Parks says that some areas may still be closed during the 2026 operating season on an as-needed basis to support minor construction activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
