WINNIPEG,\u00a0Mar. 9, 2026\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that\u00a0forward Mark Scheifele\u00a0has been named the NHL’s\u00a0First\u00a0Star of the\u00a0Week\u00a0for\u00a0the period ending Mar. 8.<\/p>\n
Scheifele,\u00a032,\u00a0began the week by factoring in on all three\u00a0Jets\u00a0goals, including tallying\u00a0the 18th\u00a0overtime game winner\u00a0of his career (tied for seventh-most\u00a0in NHL history), in a 3-2 OT win over Chicago on Tuesday. The Kitchener, Ont. native\u00a0scored another game winning goal\u00a0on Thursday\u00a0and added an assist in Winnipeg\u2019s 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.\u00a0On Saturday, Scheifele\u00a0had another three-point (1G, 2A) effort, with his goal\u00a0marking his 30th\u00a0of the season, in a 3-2 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks.\u00a0His eight points\u00a0(3G, 5A)\u00a0and two game winners\u00a0this week\u00a0were both tied for the most in the NHL\u00a0and his five assists were tied for second.<\/p>\n
Scheifele, Winnipeg\u2019s first-round pick (seventh overall)\u00a0in the 2011 NHL Draft,\u00a0leads the Jets\u00a0and ranks sixth in the NHL\u00a0in\u00a0points (78)\u00a0this season\u00a0and is also pacing the team in\u00a0goals (30), assists (48),\u00a0and game winning goals (6).\u00a0He\u00a0is on pace to set\u00a0new\u00a0single-season\u00a0career-highs for points and assists, while he could reach the 40-goal plateau for the second time in his career.\u00a0Scheifele has\u00a0achieved multiple milestones this season: 500 career assists on Jan.\u00a013,\u00a0900 career games on Nov. 22, and\u00a0he passed\u00a0Blake Wheeler for the most games\u00a0played\u00a0and points in franchise history on Nov.\u00a018 and Oct. 18, respectively.<\/p>\n
This is the first time\u00a0this season and the ninth time\u00a0in his career that\u00a0Scheifele\u00a0has been selected in the NHL\u2019s Three Stars of the\u00a0Week.\u00a0Scheifele is the first Jets weekly selection in 2025-26 and he was the NHL\u2019s Second Star of the Month for October.<\/p>\n
