{"id":525239,"date":"2026-03-09T20:23:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/525239\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:23:08","slug":"rory-mcilroys-back-being-stubborn-could-prevent-practice-round-at-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/525239\/","title":{"rendered":"Rory McIlroy&#8217;s back being &#8216;stubborn,&#8217; could prevent practice round at Players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rory McIlroy\u2019s back is being \u201cstubborn\u201d and might prevent him from playing a practice round ahead of his Players Championship title defense.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy texted Golf Channel\u2019s Todd Lewis during Monday\u2019s early \u201cLive From The Players,\u201d which Lewis read on-air as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe back is being a bit more stubborn than we thought, so I\u2019m staying at home today and tomorrow to continue treatment in South Florida with the hope to travel to Ponte Vedra on Wednesday at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/rory-mcilroy-withdraws-before-saturday-tee-times-at-arnold-palmer-invitational\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">withdrew ahead of Saturday\u2019s third round<\/a> at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, telling Lewis that he \u201ctweaked\u201d his lower back when exercising prior to his practice session.<\/p>\n<p>The world No. 2 won The Players a year ago, defeating J.J. Spaun in a Monday playoff. He also won the championship in 2019.
