{"id":525896,"date":"2026-03-10T03:09:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T03:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/525896\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T03:09:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T03:09:08","slug":"two-arrested-after-online-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/525896\/","title":{"rendered":"Two arrested after online fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Two Torontonians are facing dozens of charges after police connected them to an alleged online fraud operation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65380\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65380\/\">In a release on Monday<\/a>, police said the suspects reached out to potential victims using fake identities, including pretending to work for the Toronto Police Service or various financial institutions. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The suspects would then instruct victims to provide their physical debit cards to a courier. Once the courier delivered the cards to the suspects, police said they would use them to withdraw money and make purchases. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators said victims were targeted by the suspects between May and December 2025, and at least 25 occurrences have been connected to the pair.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Feb. 25, officers executed two search warrants at addresses associated with the accused and seized cellphones, laptops, clothing allegedly worn during the offences, and gift cards allegedly purchased with the fraudulent funds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Chidike Watts, 20, and Ehinosen Caleb Ehikhuemen, 19, both of Toronto were arrested, and face multiple counts of numerous fraud and theft-related charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7300, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two Torontonians are facing dozens of charges after police connected them to an alleged online fraud operation.
