advocacy group Air Passenger Rights<\/a> says last week\u2019s penalty isn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n\u201cI don\u2019t think overall the Canadian Transportation Agency is doing nearly enough to actually enforce passengers\u2019 rights,\u201d said G\u00e1bor Luk\u00e1cs, Air Passenger Rights president.<\/p>\n
Luk\u00e1cs said it\u2019s \u201cnot simply the amount of this fine,\u201d but that \u201cwe need to have meaningful enforcement and compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n
He called this incident \u201ca small chip in a big puzzle.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe big infraction that happened recently during the situation in Mexico\u2014where are the consequences for that?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re issuing this as a way to deflect attention away from that, in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month, Canadians were stranded in Mexico, their flights cancelled amid cartel violence.<\/p>\n
Luk\u00e1cs said he sees two ways to force change:<\/p>\n
He said one is \u201cto pick up the phone and ask to meet with federal members of Parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMPs need to hear about the fact there\u2019s no meaningful enforcement in transportation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
