JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young will step down from the company\u2019s board, the company said on Tuesday.

Park, the company chief creative officer (CCO), will not seek\u00a0reappointment as an inside director at the company\u2019s shareholder meeting scheduled for March 26.

\n He instead plans to \u201cfocus on his creative work as an artist, mentor younger artists and take on new external roles related to the K-pop industry,\u201d JYP Entertainment said in a statement.

The announcement comes after Park took on the role of cochair of the Lee Jae Myung administration\u2019s new pop culture exchange committee in October of last year. The committee is a ministerial-level body overseeing the promotion of Korean content, including K-pop.

Park founded JYP Entertainment in 1997. He remains the company’s biggest shareholder, with him and related parties owning a 15.82 percent stake.

He currently serves as JYP Entertainment’s CCO and producer. He is credited for producing and writing songs for the agency’s groups including god, Wonder Girls, 2PM, Miss A, Twice and Stray Kids.

A performer himself, Park has been active since 1994 under the stage name J.Y. Park and is known for songs such as the 2015 hit \u201cWho’s your mama? (feat. Jessi)\u201d and \u201cWhen We Disco\u201d (2020), co-recorded with singer Sunmi. <\/p>\n
