Unfortunately, Vancouver art rockers <a href=\"https:\/\/exclaim.ca\/artists\/computer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Computer<\/a> are learning this the hard way, as they&#8217;ve received a cease and desist letter ordering them to stop using their name.<\/p>\n<p>The group shared the letter on Instagram, blacking out the information of their accuser. The letter, which is addressed to both the Vancouver band and their label <a href=\"https:\/\/dinealonerecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dine Alone Records<\/a>, is from someone claiming to have a US trademark for the name Computer covering both &#8220;downloadable musical sound recordings&#8221; and &#8220;live music performances and merchandise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter further says that the group&#8217;s use of the name &#8220;constitutes trademark infringement and is likely to cause consumer confusion.&#8221; The letter gives the group and label 14 days to stop using the name and &#8220;take steps toward rebranding,&#8221; otherwise the accuser is &#8220;prepared to take further action if necessary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter is dated February 25, 2026 \u2014 that is, 13 days, giving them until tomorrow (March 11) to rebrand if they intent to comply with the demand. They posted the letter without a caption and, as of this writing, all of their channels are still labelled as Computer.<\/p>\n<p>Computer released their debut album, Station on a Hill, last year.
