A daily weight-loss pill has been shown to help patients lose about 12% of their body weight, according to the results of a clinical trial.<\/p>\n
The drug, made by the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, is a GLP-1 agonist \u2013 a type of medication that helps lower blood sugar levels, reduces appetite and slows digestion.<\/p>\n
More than 3,000 people took part in the 72-week study. Those who received the highest dose \u2013 36mg of orforglipron \u2013 lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with just 0.9% of the control group.<\/p>\n
The trial also showed other health benefits for users, including improvements to cholesterol, blood pressure and heart disease risk.<\/p>\n
