Sean Orr is suing Mayor Ken Sim for defamation over comments in which he accused Orr of distributing illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court says Sim acted \u201cdeliberately, maliciously and in bad faith\u201d when he <a href=\"https:\/\/cheknews.ca\/vancouver-mayor-sim-sends-apology-to-chinese-media-over-drug-slur-of-his-opponent-1309364\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/cheknews.ca\/vancouver-mayor-sim-sends-apology-to-chinese-media-over-drug-slur-of-his-opponent-1309364\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told Chinese-language reporters on Feb. 6<\/a> that Orr had handed out drugs on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>Orr says outside the court complex in Vancouver that Sim lied about him publicly and has \u201cfailed to provide any reasonable explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He says Sim\u2019s comments caused serious harm to his reputation and damaged his ability to serve those who elected him.<\/p>\n<p>Orr says Sim\u2019s \u201clies spread across our city\u201d and have potentially reached thousands of people who may not have heard Sim\u2019s subsequent apology.<\/p>\n<p>Municipal elections will be held this October in B.C. and the lawsuit says Sim made the remark with the \u201culterior motive\u201d of furthering a perceived political benefit.<\/p>\n<p>This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 10, 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Vancouver City Coun.
