{"id":528414,"date":"2026-03-11T05:32:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T05:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/528414\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T05:32:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T05:32:11","slug":"mike-tyson-lists-5-fighters-in-boxing-hes-always-excited-to-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/528414\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Tyson Lists 5 Fighters in Boxing He\u2019s Always Excited to Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Tyson name-dropped five active fighters when Ring Magazine asked him to name the one fighter that gets him excited about <a href=\"https:\/\/boxing-social.com\/category\/news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boxing<\/a> in the modern era, ahead of the Mike Tyson Invitational \u2014 a three-day event in Las Vegas, culminating with an amateur fight night Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite a few of them,\u201d Tyson told the publication. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like Shakur Stevenson, Keyshawn Davis, Naoya Inoue and Jermall Charlo,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I can\u2019t forget about the Mexican Monster, David Benavidez.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Though Tyson revealed four American names in his list, and a Japanese fighter, they possess different stylistic qualities through separate weight classes from Stevenson\u2019s mastery of defense at lightweight, Inoue\u2019s merciless punching prowess, and Benavidez\u2019s extraordinary gas tank that allows him to fight even harder in the championship rounds, with more grueling activity, than what he shows early in bouts \u2014 even though he starts hard and fast.<\/p>\n<p>Benavidez is set to challenge for a world title in a third weight class on Cinco de Mayo weekend when he competes against Gilberto \u2018Zurdo\u2019 Ramirez at cruiserweight \u2014 the latest stop in a career swing that has seen him single out top tier names despite seemingly being frozen out by the elite.<\/p>\n<p>Tyson touched on this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been done dirty because he should have gotten some of those big fights,\u201d he said, referencing talked-about showdowns against the likes of Saul \u2018Canelo\u2019 Alvarez and, to a lesser extent, Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s something he\u2019s going to have over boxing. They didn\u2019t give him the big fights. If he doesn\u2019t get the money that he\u2019s supposed to get after he finishes boxing, it\u2019s because boxing screwed him,\u201d the 59-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>The five fighters who most excite him weren\u2019t the only boxers he praised, as he also commended Terence Crawford, who recently retired after outclassing Canelo in front of approximately 70,000 people at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>A five-weight world champion, Crawford also holds one of the most impressive victories of the last 10 years when he dominated, dropped, and stopped Errol Spence Jr in a welterweight unification bout.<\/p>\n<p>For Tyson, Crawford has shown such an extraordinary skillset he\u2019d have been able to compete against The Four Kings of the 1980s \u2014 Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and Roberto Duran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would have been some beautiful fighting,\u201d said Tyson of a match-up against one of those guys. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe would have done well,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re a fighter and really want to test yourself, you do it like those guys and fight until you get beaten.
