Cloverdale HC have found themselves in hole in the second round of the PJHL playoffs.<\/p>\n
The club is down 3-1 with Game 5 set for March 11 (after we went to press).<\/p>\n
After a heartbreaking, 8-7 OT loss in Game 1 of their second round series to the White Rock Whalers, Cloverdale dropped Game 2 by a 5-2 score before battling back in Game 3 to win it 8-7. Cloverdale then lost 7-2 March 9 in a Game 4 that was dominated by the Whalers.<\/p>\n
Calvin bright, an assistant captain with Cloverdale HC, said the team struggled at home because they weren\u2019t physical enough along the wall and in front of the net.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just let them skate away and we were second to the puck a lot,\u201d Bright said. \u201cWe weren\u2019t prepared to go tonight. If you look at both games in White Rock, we dominated them, we out-hit them, and we controlled both games.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said their performance at The Barn in Game 4 was lacklustre and they weren\u2019t playing at their peak.<\/p>\n
Bright noted that to win Game 5, the team will have to get a lot more physical and win both races to the puck and battles in the corners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very optimistic,\u201d he said of their chances in Game 5.<\/p>\n
As for the Game 4, Cloverdale made some early mistakes in the opening period that cost them and tiltled the game in the Whalers favour, including not clearing a puck on the penalty kill which resulted in a White Rock goal. Cloverdale found themselves down 5-1 at the end of the 1st.<\/p>\n
Not a lot happened in the 2nd frame, but in the 3rd, the Whalers took four penalties in a row. However, Cloverdale HC wasn\u2019t able to capitalize on any of those opportunities to get themselves back in the game.<\/p>\n
Game 5 shifts over to White Rock on March 11, puck drop is at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
If necessary, Game 6 will go at the The Barn March 12 and Game 7 would be held March 14 at Centennial Arena in White Rock.<\/p>\n
Cloverdale HC\u2019s first ever playoffs come after a respectable inaugural season. Cloverdale managed to go .568 over 44 games as an expansion club, posting 28 wins and 18 losses with 2 shootout losses\u2014good for 50 points and a fifth-place finish.<\/p>\n
