Liza Minnelli blasted Gene Hackman more than one year after his death.<\/p>\n
In the \u201cCabaret\u201d star\u2019s new memoir, \u201cKids, Wait Till You Hear This!,\u201d<\/a> she recalled Hackman\u2019s \u201cdownright rude\u201d behavior while they were filming the 1975 movie \u201cLucky Lady.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like to whine, but Stanley [Donen] later shared publicly that Gene was very dismissive of me during the film,\u201d Minnelli, 75, writes.<\/p>\n Liza Minnelli (seen above in a blue outfit) blasted \u201cdownright rude\u201d Gene Hackman more than one year after his death. Corbis via Getty Images<\/p>\n In her new memoir \u201cKids, Wait Till You Hear This!\u201d (shown above), the \u201cCabaret\u201d star recalled Hackman\u2019s behavior while they were filming the 1975 movie \u201cLucky Lady.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s hard to go to work when the chemistry is absent,\u201d she adds. \u201cI think it\u2019s fair to say that Gene was downright rude.\u201d<\/p>\n In \u201cLucky Lady,\u201d Minnelli starred as Claire, a widow who begins smuggling alcohol with her lover, Walker (portrayed by Burt Reynolds), and his friend, Kibby (played by Hackman), during the Prohibition era.<\/p>\n The trio gets into a messy love triangle as they try to avoid jail for their crimes.<\/p>\n The film, directed by Donen, flopped at the box office and received negative reviews from critics. <\/p>\n Roger Ebert<\/a>\u00a0gave the comedy-drama two stars out of four, calling it \u201ca big, expensive, good-looking flop of a movie; rarely is so much effort expended on a movie so inconsequential.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like to whine, but Stanley [Donen] later shared publicly that Gene was very dismissive of me during the film,\u201d Minnelli (seen above with Hackman in \u201cLucky Lady\u201d) writes. \u00a920thCentFox\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Minnelli (seen above dancing with Hackman) said the \u201cchemistry [was] absent\u201d with the Oscar winner. Minnelli later found Allen having \u201cpassionate sex\u201d with a man<\/a>.<\/p>\n Minnelli\u2019s revelation about Hackman comes more than a year after he died on Feb. 18<\/a>, six days after his wife, Betsy Arakawa<\/a>, passed away<\/a>. GC Images<\/p>\n Officials believe the \u201cFrench Connection\u201d star had been\u00a0unknowingly living with his wife\u2019s dead body for days<\/a>.<\/p>\n Hackman died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease<\/a>, with \u201cadvanced Alzheimer\u2019s disease\u201d being a contributing factor, while Arakawa\u2019s death was caused by\u00a0hantavirus pulmonary syndrome<\/a>, a rare rodent-transmitted virus.<\/p>\n The couple\u2019s\u00a0partially mummified bodies<\/a>\u00a0were\u00a0discovered inside\u00a0their cluttered home<\/a>\u00a0on February 25, 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Liza Minnelli blasted Gene Hackman more than one year after his death.
