Princess Diana was allegedly preparing her youngest son, Prince Harry, to be the king over her \u201cshy\u201d eldest son, Prince William.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think William has been a bit of a surprise. He was a shy young man,\u201d royal expert Richard Kay recalled on the\u00a0\u201cPalace Confidential\u201d\u00a0podcast<\/a> Tuesday. <\/p>\n \u201cCertainly, when his mother was still alive, she would tell me that she never really thought that William wanted the \u2018top job,\u2019 as she called it,\u201d Kay added. <\/p>\n A royal expert claimed Princess Diana (seen above with her sons and King Charles III in 1994) was \u201cpreparing\u201d Prince Harry to be king over his older brother, Prince William. WireImage<\/p>\n Kay claimed his friend Diana, who\u00a0died in a car crash<\/a>\u00a0in Paris in August 1997, \u201cwas preparing\u201d for the possibility that Harry would be the one who succeeded his father, King Charles III.<\/p>\n \u201c[Diana] had a nickname for Harry: She used to call him \u2018Good King Harry\u2019 \u2014 a throwback to medieval days,\u201d Kay explained.<\/p>\n The \u201cSpare\u201d<\/a> author, 41, and his wife, Meghan Markle, ended up quitting the royal family in 2020<\/a>. William is slated to become the next king<\/a> after Charles, followed by his son Prince George.<\/p>\n Kay (seen above with the late royal in 1996) claimed Diana told him she believed William didn\u2019t want the \u201ctop job\u201d as king.
