Large-scale power outages were impacting several regions across Quebec, with up to 103,852 customers\u00a0losing electricity as freezing rain swept through Southern Quebec Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
Just before 1 a.m. Thursday, 101,862 addresses were without power in the province, with Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie, Centre-du-Qu\u00e9bec and Montr\u00e9al regions taking the worst hit.<\/p>\n
In Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie, 43,567 customers were without electricity, with 5,127\u00a0of those in Longueuil alone. In Montreal, 14,844 addresses were affected, according to Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n
In Centre-du-Qu\u00e9bec, the outage tally stood at 15,364, in Outaouais at 13,310 and in Laurentians at 11,159.<\/p>\n
Many schools and universities were cancelled in Greater Montreal Wednesday amid an orange alert for freezing rain was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada.<\/p>\n
About 20-30 millimetres of freezing rain was expected starting late Wednesday and through the night.<\/p>\n
Authorities are advising against non-essential travel and caution while walking on side walks and streets over the next few days.<\/p>\n
