{"id":531687,"date":"2026-03-12T15:42:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T15:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/531687\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T15:42:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T15:42:07","slug":"mississauga-extends-development-charges-incentive-program-city-of-mississauga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/531687\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississauga extends development charges incentive program \u2013 City of Mississauga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Getting more homes built and making them more affordable is one of Council\u2019s top priorities.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>City Council has approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=ad8491b6-71b9-4832-a12a-3af277d9a433&amp;Agenda=Agenda&amp;lang=English&amp;Item=37&amp;Tab=attachments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">motion<\/a> to extend the City\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/services-and-programs\/planning-and-development\/growth-charges\/development-charges\/development-charges-by-laws-and-rates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">development charges<\/a> incentive program through December 31, 2027. The extension gives the development industry an additional year to take advantage of the incentives so they can continue planning and delivering much-needed housing for Mississauga families.<\/p>\n<p>The program, which was launched in January 2025 and enhanced in February 2026, offers the following development charge reductions for residential properties:<\/p>\n<p>50 percent for all residential unit types<br \/>\n100 percent for purpose-built apartment rental units<\/p>\n<p>Applies to 1-bedroom plus den, 2-bedroom or 3-bedroom units<br \/>\n25-year rental tenure agreement required<\/p>\n<p>When the program launched, it included a November 13, 2026 deadline to pull building permits. Now, to be eligible for the incentives, developers have until December 31, 2027 to pull a building permit. These incentives are designed to help drive new housing construction while advancing overall housing affordability.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s motion builds on the City\u2019s ongoing efforts to get more homes built and make them more affordable in Mississauga.\u00a0In January 2025, following the release of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/28114301\/Partners-in-Homebuilding-Mayors-Housing-Taskforce-Report-accessible.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor\u2019s Housing Task Force\u00a0report<\/a>, Mississauga became one of the first municipalities in Ontario to reduce and\/or eliminate development charges for residential housing.\u00a0For more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/publication\/partners-in-homebuilding-mayors-housing-task-force-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mississauga.ca\/housing-taskforce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Quote<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a City, we\u2019re leading development charge reforms to help reduce costs and make homes more affordable for Mississauga families.
