Surrey SkyTrain station operation leads to 61 arrests<\/p>\n

A three-month-long police operation in the area around Surrey Central SkyTrain station has led to more than 60 arrests and the seizure of more than $9,000.<\/p>\n
The project was launched on Nov. 22 with the Transit Police crime suppression team, Surrey RCMP, Surrey Police Service and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC.<\/p>\n
The project led to 61 arrests for various reasons, including outstanding warrants, weapons possession, and Motor Vehicle Act violations. It also led to 18 weapons being seized, as well as a significant amount of drugs: 258 g of fentanyl, 38 g of methamphetamine, 42 g of cocaine, 298 hydromorphone pills and 178 oxycodone pills. In addition, $9,400 was seized that is believed to \u201cbe proceeds of a crime\u201d and $2,000 in stolen merchandise.<\/p>\n
The operation was \u201cdesigned to address crime and safety concerns,\u201d according to a March 12 news release from the Transit Police. It focused on Surrey Central station and adjacent businesses, including the Central City complex.<\/p>\n

Sunny Kainth of Metro Vancouver Transit Police. \u201cSkyTrain and bus passengers deserve to feel safe without concern about being exposed to weapons, drugs, or the violence that can sometimes accompany them.
