{"id":533139,"date":"2026-03-13T06:40:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T06:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/533139\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T06:40:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T06:40:12","slug":"companies-can-no-longer-charge-for-changing-or-cancelling-internet-cellphone-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/533139\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies can no longer charge for changing or cancelling internet, cellphone plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is removing the fees for changing or cancelling internet and cellphone plans.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/radio-television-telecommunications\/news\/2026\/03\/crtc-eliminates-fees-to-make-it-easier-to-switch-internet-and-cellphone-plans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announcement posted on Thursday<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/crtc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CRTC<\/a> says it is eliminating extra fees to activate, change or cancel a plan, giving consumers more flexibility to manage their plans and take advantage of better offers without the unexpected extra costs.<\/p>\n<p>This decision was made after the CRTC held a public consultation following recent changes to the <a href=\"https:\/\/laws.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/T-3.4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Telecommunications Act<\/a>, and heard that fees can prevent Canadians from switching plans.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking action to give Canadians more control over their Internet and cellphone services,\u201d Vicky Eatrides, chairperson and chief executive officer of the CRTC, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s decision removes extra fees to activate, change or cancel a plan.
