<\/p>\nFor many kids it\u2019s a dream come true, getting out of doing chores and being allowed to sit on the couch all day playing video games.<\/p>\n

But for 12-year-old Calgary boy Bentley St. John, being stuck at home is a reminder of the scariest moment of his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen he ran my leg over and I think that was wrong,\u201d Bentley says.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy friends, and there\u2019s an officer, my mom and my family,\u201d Bentley says, listing the signatures on the blue cast helping to heal his leg that was broken in three places Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
Bentley was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Tarington Way and Taradale Drive N.E. around 7:10 a.m. when he was hit by a car<\/a> on his way to the bus stop.<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n The driver left the scene while bystanders assisted the young boy, who was taken to the Alberta Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt pretty sad and pretty upset he didn\u2019t help me,\u201d says Bentley. \u201cThose people (who did help) had a lot of courage in them and they made my heart feel better.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you’ll never miss the day’s top stories.<\/p>\n Security camera footage of the collision shows Bentley making his way to the side of the road while several cars drive past<\/a> the boy who was still on the ground before anyone stops to help.<\/p>\n \u201cDisappointed in the community,\u201d says Bentley\u2019s older sister, Jaden Jacobson, after watching the video. \u201cWatching cars drive by and no one caring.\u201d<\/p>\n While Bentley recovers at home, Calgary police continue to search for the driver of the white sedan that hit him, now turning to the public for information.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re operating a 3,000-lbs vehicle and you\u2019re hitting a 70-lbs child,\u201d says Jacobson. \u201cTake accountability for your actions.\u201d<\/p>\n Bentley\u2019s scary encounter comes as the City of Calgary deals with a growing number of pedestrian involved collisions\u00a0<\/a>on city streets.<\/p>\n \u201cAngry, sad, frustrated, annoyed,\u201d says Bentley\u2019s uncle, Gary Sinclair. \u201cIt keeps happening in this city and it feels like nothing is being done about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n![\"Get](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\")
