The province is set to provide an update Friday on its involvement in the City of Calgary\u2019s water system issues.<\/p>\n

Minister of Municipal Affairs Dan Williams is scheduled to speak in the city this morning.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Alberta\u2019s government began looking into Calgary\u2019s water main ruptures<\/a>, demanding the city turn over hundreds of documents dating back at least 20 years.<\/p>\n

Williams said at the time the province\u2019s involvement is about making sure Calgarians have a reliable water system.<\/p>\n

Mayor Jeromy Farkas has previously said he has no problem working with the province.<\/p>\n

This comes as the city wraps up it\u2019s first week back in Stage 4 water restrictions due to repair work on the Bearspaw Feeder Main, which broke for the second time in less than two years at the end of December. <\/p>\n

Usage has remained in the \u2018green zone\u2019 during the first week of work. The city\u2019s water demand dashboard says 482 million litres was used on Thursday. <\/p>\n

City officials say crews are making steady progress<\/a> on reinforcing nine segments of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main including six segments along 16 Avenue NW near Sarcee Trail and three segments at Point McKay Park.<\/p>\n

The city reports that water is being drained from the final section of pipe and excavation is underway across all sites.<\/p>\n

Construction remains on schedule, according to the city.<\/p>\n

The city also announced new work along 33 Avenue NW, where valve repairs are now underway. The work means lane reductions and a partial closure at 83 Street and 33 Avenue NW.<\/p>\n

The valve repairs are expected to take around 10 days.<\/p>\n
