Season 27 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit<\/a> has been in no shortage of twists and turns, but Captain Renee Curry (Aim\u00e9 Donna Kelly)<\/a> just proved yet again that no one goes after a member of the SVU family without a tenacious fight.<\/p>\n

While most Law & Order episodes begin with a bloody murder scene or gripping altercation, viewers were treated to a bit of a shake-up during SVU’s “Thirsty,” which kicked off with an intense NYPD vs. FDNY boxing match. Representing the elite squad was none other than Captain Curry, who had her entire unit’s uproarious support as they watched her duke it out from the stands.<\/p>\n

A known kick-boxing badass<\/a>, Curry dodged the opponent’s blows with preternatural skill, ultimately landing a victorious final punch that secured the NYPD’s win. The crowd went wild, but her SVU squad mates went ballistic for their cherished champion.<\/p>\n

The entire squad was elated over Curry’s triumphant win, visiting their colleague in the locker room after the match concluded, showering Curry with the utmost praise.<\/p>\n

Curry was feeling pretty good about herself as she toweled off the sweat in the locker room, happy to reunite with her squad members.<\/p>\n

“Devastating, never doubted you for a second,” Terry Bruno (Kevin Kane<\/a>) said in the locker room, giving Curry a pat on the shoulder. Meanwhile, Detective Jake Griffin (Corey Cott<\/a>) burst into the locker room like a ball of excitement, eager to celebrate his colleague.<\/p>\n

“Killer Curry!” Griffin exclaimed with glee. “Next stop, Golden Gloves!”<\/p>\n

“Nice work in there, partner,” Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish<\/a>) echoed. Of course, the SVU captain was eager to congratulate her fellow captain, as well, happily stacking a pile of bills after making a safe bet on Curry winning the match.<\/p>\n

“Well, this was the easiest $100 I’ve ever made,” Benson said, thoroughly proud of her colleague. “You were great!”<\/p>\n

Benson encouraged the squad to celebrate her earnings over a few drinks, and Curry explained she was happy to join them. However, before Curry could regain her bearings and head out, she was shocked to receive a pop-in from Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan (Noma Dumezweni)<\/a> in the locker room. Why was Benson’s boss there?<\/p>\n

Law & Order: SVU Season 27<\/p>\n

Olivia Benson and her fearless squad are back in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27, with new episodes airing on Thursdays at 9\/8c on\u00a0NBC<\/a>\u00a0and the next day on\u00a0Peacock<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Season 27 stars Mariska Hargitay<\/a>,\u00a0Ice T<\/a>,\u00a0Peter Scanavino<\/a>,\u00a0Kelli Giddish<\/a>,\u00a0Kevin Kane<\/a>, and Aim\u00e9 Donna Kelly<\/a>, as well as SVU newcomer Corey Cott<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This season, Benson continues her command of the Manhattan SVU as she crosses paths with a dynamite line-up of guest stars including Jemima Kirke<\/a> and Danielle MacDonald<\/a>. Plus, Season 27 has marked the long-awaited return of Sgt. Rollins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Curry is fighting for her job back on SVU\"Noma<\/p>\n

“Tremendous!” Tynan congratulated, but Curry remained perturbed over the Chief’s presence. Tynan and Benson haven’t been on the best of terms lately, so Curry was quick to suspect Tynan’s visit wasn’t solely due to excitement over a boxing victory.<\/p>\n

Not one to bury the lead, Tynan explained that she’d been a long-time admirer of Curry’s, well-versed in her past as an IAD captain turned SVU detective<\/a>, later insisting on a demotion to work under Benson to do greater good on Benson’s squad. Tynan respected Curry’s passion for helping survivors, but expressed concern over the former captain’s upward mobility at the Manhattan SVU. With Benson as active captain \u2014 and with Benson expressing a strong interest to remain at her longtime post \u2014 Tynan worried that Curry lacked any real authority or room for advancement.<\/p>\n

“Good news is, there’s a path that can change that perception,” Tynan said, giving Curry pause.<\/p>\n

As tensions boil between Tynan and the SVU captain, Benson was shocked when, after closing another case with the squad, Curry revealed that Tynan had offered her a promotion to SVU deputy chief. For those in need of a rewind, that’s the same position Tynan initially created for Benson, whose denial created the ongoing conflict. Aware that Tynan was using Curry as a pawn within some power play to undermine Benson, Curry turned down the promotion. However, in doing so, Curry was dismayed to reveal that she’d been reassigned as an executive officer for the 16th precinct, dragging her away from the squad.<\/p>\n

While Curry being torn from their corner is bad news for the entire SVU, we can rely on Benson and Curry to not go down without a valiant fight.<\/p>\n
