{"id":534342,"date":"2026-03-13T19:38:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T19:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/534342\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T19:38:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T19:38:13","slug":"laurentian-taps-former-norcat-ceo-for-entrepreneur-in-residence-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/534342\/","title":{"rendered":"Laurentian taps former NORCAT CEO for &#8216;Entrepreneur in Residence&#8217; role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sudbury\u2019s Laurentian University has established an Entrepreneur in Residence role to provide guidance and mentorship in entrepreneurship and business development.<\/p>\n<p>Don Duval, the former CEO of NORCAT, has been appointed to the role, which was announced March 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon Duval\u2019s experience at the intersection of innovation, commercialization, and the mining sector makes him an invaluable resource for our university community,\u201d Tammy Eger, Laurentian\u2019s vice-president of research, said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>According to the school, Duval will \u201csupport students, faculty, researchers, alumni, and early-stage founders by providing mentorship and strategic guidance on venture development and commercialization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll additionally advise Laurentian on entrepreneurship programming, with an emphasis on the mining and resource sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The role is a volunteer position, and Duval\u2019s appointment runs to the end of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Duval spent 13 years at the helm of NORCAT, Sudbury\u2019s regional innovation centre, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernontariobusiness.com\/industry-news\/innovation-research\/ceo-leaving-sudbury-innovation-centre-by-years-end-11016835\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">announcing his departure last summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He is currently a principal and head of mining at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.evokinnovations.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Evok Innovations<\/a>, a Vancouver-based venture capital firm that invests in energy technologies and critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased to support Laurentian University as its first Entrepreneur in Residence,\u201d Duval said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is strong entrepreneurial potential across Northern Ontario, particularly in mining and related technologies, and I look forward to working with founders and innovators as they develop ideas and pursue impactful ventures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Entrepreneur in Residence program will run through <a href=\"https:\/\/laurentian.ca\/research\/fielding-innovation-centre\/foundry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Foundry<\/a>, an innovation hub at Laurentian University that offers workshops, events and activities to help participants develop practical skills, explore new ideas and connect with like-minded peers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sudbury\u2019s Laurentian University has established an Entrepreneur in Residence role to provide guidance and mentorship in entrepreneurship and&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":534343,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[45,49,48,137,209237],"class_list":["post-534342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entrepreneurship","tag-business","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-entrepreneurship","tag-laurentian-universitydon-duvallaurentian-university-entrepreneur-in-residence"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/534342","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=534342"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/534342\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/534343"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=534342"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=534342"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=534342"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
