Two of the ATP Tour\u2019s most in-form players will take centre stage at the BNP Paribas Open<\/a> on Saturday evening, when Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and Daniil Medvedev<\/a> collide for a place in the Indian Wells final.<\/p>\n Alcaraz, unbeaten in 16 matches to start 2026, has looked every bit the Tour\u2019s dominant force ahead of their semi-final. Yet Medvedev believes this year\u2019s conditions could tilt the dynamic slightly in his favour, despite trailing 2-6 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it’s Carlos, I feel like I’m playing great \u2014 very good tennis,\u201d Medvedev said before the Spaniard completed his quarter-final victory over Cameron Norrie<\/a>. \u201cI never want to jump into conclusions [and say it\u2019s the] best tennis of my life or whatever. I’m playing very good.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like the court is a bit faster since the two times I have played him, so I feel like it’s a good chance to show my best tennis against him. But he’s the toughest opponent we have right now. Him and Jannik, maybe debatable as to who is the toughest.\u201d<\/p>\n After a difficult 2025, in which he did not qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> for the first time in seven seasons, Medvedev has steadily rebuilt momentum. The 30-year-old has won titles in Brisbane and Dubai already this year and, with victory over Alcaraz on Saturday, he would leapfrog Novak Djokovic<\/a> into second in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.<\/p>\n Crucially, Medvedev has rediscovered many of the qualities that made him an ever-present threat on hard courts. He has served with consistency, absorbed pressure from deep and also displayed controlled aggression when necessary. Alcaraz, meanwhile, has continued to stamp his authority on the sport.\n<\/p>\n With his triumph at the Australian Open<\/a> in January, the 22-year-old became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam, and he followed that milestone with the ATP 500 title in Doha. In his bid for a third crown in Indian Wells, Alcaraz has expertly mixed in his trademark blend of power, speed and improvisation.<\/p>\n \u201cTennis is about choosing the right shot in about half a second,” Alcaraz said after striking 19 forehand winners in his quarter-final win against Norrie. “Sometimes I just miss the shot because I didn\u2019t choose the right one. In my mind, I have like seven, five options, sometimes it\u2019s tricky for me to pick the right one.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch Indian Wells QF Highlights:<\/p>\n While Alcaraz has been pushed during the fortnight \u2014 dropping a set to Arthur Rinderknech<\/a> in the third round \u2014 he has since surged through with scintillating victories over Casper Ruud<\/a> and Norrie to reach a fifth consecutive semi-final in the desert.<\/p>\n Medvedev arrives with momentum of his own, having won his past 16 sets, according to the Infosys ATP Win\/Loss Index, and dismantled defending champion Jack Draper<\/a> in the quarter-finals. It’s a run that underlines the confidence he brings into his ninth meeting with Alcaraz, one which promises to be another compelling chapter in their rivalry.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
