STATESBORO, Ga.\u00a0\u2014 The No. 26-ranked Utah golf team played well in the first round of the 46th\u00a0annual Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club, finishing day one with a 7-under 281 team score, good enough for a share of second place in the tournament’s field of 15 teams.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nUtah was led by the deadly two-headed attack of Sergio Jimenez<\/a> and Brandon Robison<\/a>, who paced the team with respective rounds of 5-under 67.\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nAfter four holes of settling into Forest Height’s Bermuda grass greens, Jimenez caught fire\u2014rattling off three birdies in the final five holes of the front nine to take a 2-under 34 into the back. From there, the junior from Spain continued to play bogey-free golf, carding three additional birdies on holes 11-13 before finishing with pars down the stretch to shoot 5-under. Entering day two of the Schenkel, Jimenez sits in a four-way tie for third place, three strokes off the tournament’s leader, Rocco Salvitti of Notre Dame (8-under).\u00a0

\nRobison, who entered the Schenkel fresh off a top 10 finish at the Desimone, was the proud owner of Utah’s cleanest round of the day\u2014finishing as Utah’s only player without a bogey.\u00a0

\nThe senior’s day started off hot with a birdie on the par-4 first, before three additional birdies followed on holes No. 4, 7, 12, and 16. The 5-under-par score matched Robison’s lowest round of the season and earned him Utah’s second share of third place in the tournament’s individual standings.\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nGabriel Palacios<\/a> finished his first round with a score of 1-over 73. The junior carded four birdies during the round and enters day two of the Schenkel in a tie for 36th.

\nMid-season transfer Jack Jerge<\/a> rounded out Utah’s four-player scoring group in 47th\u00a0with a day-one score of 2-over 74.\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nDavis Johnson<\/a> enters round two in 57th\u00a0after a 3-over 75 round. Redshirt freshman Kade McDonough<\/a> (playing as an individual) sits tied for 36th\u00a0in the individual standings after a 1-over 73 opening round.

\nThe Utes will begin round two of the Schenkel three strokes behind Georgia Southern (-10) in the tournament’s team standings. Notably, Utah won the Schenkel in 2025 after shooting an opening round 288 (even-par). With a seven-stroke improvement on last year’s opening round, the Utes title defense sits in a good place entering day two of the 2026 Schenkel.
